Welcome to 1st Grade in Room 44!!

I am very excited to say this is my seventh year teaching 1st grade at Palos East. My first two years of teaching were spent in Plainfield as a 7th grade language arts teacher and girls' basketball coach. I grew up in the beautiful Palos area and I attended District 118, and Stagg High School. I went on to graduate from Illinois State University’s outstanding Elementary Education Program with my Bachelors Degree in Elementary Education and a concentration in language arts and social science in 2008.  In May 2011, I graduated with my Masters Degree in School Leadership from Concordia University. Currently, I continue to pursue graduate classes through St. Francis University to further my education and knowledge so I can continue to implement new and exciting teaching strategies in my classroom to maximize student learning and engagement. I am ecstatic to be a part of the amazing 1st grade team at East, and thrilled to share so much knowledge with my students this year!

Personally, my husband and I welcomed our sweet baby girl, Camryn, into our family in July! Her big sister, Brooklyn, just adores her new baby sister! It is so much fun watching them become the best of friends; as they are only 16 months apart! In my free time, I enjoy spending time with our family and friends, taking walks with the girls and our dog, Clover, staying active, reading, trying new recipes & restaurants, listening to country music, going to concerts, taking tropical vacations, and boating. I love all winter and water activities such as skiing, snowboarding, waterskiing and tubing! Lastly, I am a huge Chicago Bears, White Sox, Cubs and Blackhawks fan!

My goal for my students is to become: honest, responsible, respectful, peaceful, knowledgeable, and self-motivated learners while building their self-confidence, communication skills, and creativity.  I will provide a learning environment where students are highly engaged, and I will make every effort to meet the needs of my students through differentiation.  I strive to make our classroom a place where students feel safe and supported by their teacher and peers.  I’m looking forward to a very successful year together in 1st grade!
