 Homework

The First Grade homework expectations remain consistent throughout the year.  There are two homework logs that are sent home in the red folder:  a math/spelling log, and a reading record log.  Both are considered homework and are expected to be returned on Mondays.  Below are some suggestions on how to meet the expectations.

Spelling

The spelling test is usually, but not always, on the last day of the school week (usually Friday).  These are suggestions for how to manage studying throughout the week.  Please use your own discretion to meet your child’s needs.

Write each spelling word 3x’s each.  Be creative… use crayons, markers, colored pencils, etc.

*Put spelling words in ABC order.

* Write 5 sentences using a spelling word in each sentence.

* Review previous spelling lists.

Write spelling words in a sand/salt tray, paint them with water colors, or make them out of clay.

Play after school and enjoy your weekend!

Reading

The first grade expectation is to read daily for a minimum of 15 minutes outside of school time.  Please remember to record books every day on the weekly reading record log.  Please return the log at the beginning of each week.
