We will have a snack each morning. Please send one nutritious snack in addition to your child’s lunch. Please do not send a drink for snack time. The children will be allowed to get a drink of water. Our classroom is a “nut-free” environment. Please check the labels for information regarding nuts. However, your child may bring a lunch that contains peanuts.
Your child will bring a folder home each day. Please review the completed work and notes, and return the folder to school the next day.
Please send a note or call the office if there are any changes in your child’s dismissal.
Birthdays are very special, and we love to celebrate at school! All first grade students will receive a birthday pencil, a bookmark, a certificate, and a crown. In addition, your child will have his/her birthday announced over the intercom during the morning announcements.
We will go to the library as a class. The library has an open door, "free-flow" policy. Children may check out two new books once they have read and returned their books. Children do not have to wait until our designated library day.
Each month, the students will receive a reading log. They are required to read at least 15 minutes each night. All logs need to be signed, dated, and returned to school when complete.
Each month, the students will receive a math log. They are required to practice their math facts for 10 minutes each night. All logs need to be signed, dated, and returned to school when complete.
I will send home a book order at the beginning of each month. If you wish to order, please send in the order form by the indicated date. A check should be made payable to "Scholastic Book Clubs". You may wish to order books online as well by going to www.scholastic.com/bookclubs.
Please feel free to send an email to me, write a note, or call if you have any questions or concerns. I will keep you informed about our first grade activities throughout the year.
First Grade Behavior Management Plan
The students will learn about my behavioral expectations the first day of school. Throughout the year, I'll provide positive reinforcement to encourage appropriate behavior. I'll communicate with parents my expectations and my observations. I truly appreciate your support!!
I have a stoplight system that provides visual cueing for the students. I give two/three warnings, and then the child moves his/her clip to yellow. The red light is used for major offenses and hopefully won't have to be used! :)
