Welcome to our website! I am Mrs. Schweer, your student's 4th grade teacher! I am ecstatic to be entering my tenth year teaching. This is my sixth year at Palos West...however I'm returning after four years of being with another district.
I began my career in District 118 teaching 3rd grade for three years then taught 5th grade for two years. Four years ago my husband relocated us because he coaches college basketball, so we moved to Monmouth, Illinois. While living in Monmouth, I was a Reading Specialist and the District RtI Coordinator for K-12. Outside of working in District 238 I taught Advanced Reading and Writing at Monmouth College, coached the Monmouth College Dance Team and presented on a variety of educational topics.
I received my undergrad at Eastern Illinois University. Go Panthers! While teaching 5th grade I completed my master's degree as a Reading Specialist at Olivet Nazarene University.
I am very proud to represent Palos West to the best of my abilities. I take my role as an educator very seriously and wish the best for all of my students. You'll learn pretty quickly that I'm a huge fan of technology and seamlessly integrating it into our curriculum. It's my belief that technology is always an extension, not a replacement, to content being learned. Being a SMART Exemplary Educator, has encouraged me to constantly create new and innovative SMART lessons to engage and educate my students. It is my belief that one day these students will be enrolling in college and applying skills that they have learned in this very classroom. I only hope that they will look back on 4th grade as being the most enjoyable, accepting, and knowledgeable growing experience that they have had. I look forward to their many future successes!
