If your child is eligible for bus transportation, I encourage you to allow your child to take his or her first step in kindergarten and ride! Our buses are carefully monitored and several adults are near to greet the children as they exit the bus. For your information, bus changes (for birthdays, play dates, etc.) will not be allowed; please see our established policy in this year’s school calendar. If you need to drop your child off at school before our day begins, please do not bring him or her more than 5 minutes prior to class time.
If your child has a change in transportation on a certain day, you must send a written note stating the change in your child’s routine; please don’t leave me a voicemail or email regarding dismissal changes. If I do not receive a note or information from the front office, I will follow your child’s usual dismissal procedure for that day. Any parents who need to drop off or pick up their children should enter the north parking lot; please park along the fence and wait until you’re signaled to pull up (typically this occurs after the buses have pulled away). Thank you for your cooperation!
I expect your child to make good decisions about his or her behavior. Every child in our classroom deserves the most positive educational climate for his or her growth, and I believe our classroom affords each child guidance in making good decisions about his or her behavior. I will send home a note with additional information regarding our weather system. In addition to this system, the children will work collaboratively to fill up a jar with pride catchers as they are demonstrating good behavior.
Please read weekly newsletters. This letter gives you a general idea of concepts we are covering. In addition, it contains important reminders that will allow your child’s learning experience to become that much more meaningful.
Absent/Make Up Work:
Class work is not given out ahead of time. Your child will receive his or her work upon returning to school. Unfortunately, it is not possible for your child to make up everything we have accomplished at school. Many times our learning experiences involve hands-on activities, lessons with big books, etc.
I will be using Scholastic Book Club. I will send home the order forms each month. This is a wonderful way to build up your “at-home library.” In addition, your participation helps our classroom receive free books and classroom resources which will enhance your child’s learning experiences. When placing an order, make checks payable to “Scholastic Book Club.”
Please remember to send a nutritious snack with your child each day. Some healthy choices include fruit, veggies, yogurt, etc. Our classroom is a “ Peanut Free” zone. Please make sure your child does not bring a snack containing nuts, peanuts, or any peanut butter products in them! If you made a milk payment for the school year, your child will receive this beverage each day. If your child isn’t purchasing milk, please send a water bottle (no juice please).
Through the recommendation of our District’s Wellness Committee, parents are welcome to send in non-edible products such as bookmarks, stickers, etc. Your child also has the option of donating a book or children’s game to our classroom.
Each child will have a chance to become a “Super Star.” This experience will allow us to celebrate each individual’s uniqueness. Your child will receive a note explaining how the program works when he or she is selected to be our “star” for the week.
The children will have outdoor recess every day (except gym days) as weather permits. Please be sure to dress your child accordingly, especially when we begin to have cooler weather. Gym shoes are strongly recommended each day.
