Math Enrichment

1st & 2nd Grade

Math Enrichment

A group of first grade students and second grade students who are excelling with the basic math concepts currently being taught in their homerooms meet with me one day a week.  Students work on math enrichment activities and problem-solving skills.

The math enrichment groups may be flexible throughout the year.  Students participate in enrichment activities and lessons that meet the Common Core Learning Standards for Mathematics and cover a variety of math concepts, such as:

  • Concepts of Numbers
  • Computation
  • Measurement
  • Time
  • Money
  • Geometry
  • Data Analysis
  • Probability
  • Problem Solving
  • Using graphs and diagrams

Math Enrichment students get an “extra credit” packet to work on throughout the week.  The packet provides enrichment and challenge in the area of mathematics.  The extra credit is optional for students.   Please note the math skills covered in the extra credit packet may not have been introduced to the students.  If a student is struggling with the work, it does not have to be completed. Students may pick and choose the work or problems they would like to complete.  Many of the concepts are above the student’s grade level and will require parental assistance.
