In Room 12 We Practice
As a class, we follow 3 simple rules. They are to be followed at all times.
The following rules are posted in the classroom:
Each year our class brainstorms many examples of these rules. We discuss what a student following each of the above rules should: Look like, Sound like, & Act like. Each student should be able to give examples for each rule.
At the beginning of each day, all the children begin on “Let's Rock & Roll." On days of exceptional behavior and hard work your child may progress to "A Stellar Performance," "Can I Have Your Autograph," or even..."You're a Rock Star!"
However, if a child chooses NOT follow the class rules on a given day, certain consequences will result. A A warning will be given and the student will move to "Singing the Blues." If the inappropriate behavior continues, the child will lose 1 recess. S/he will move his/her marker "Speak with Management." At recess the student will fill out a "Behavior Reflection" activity. Your child will also list ideas for improving his/her behavior. This “Behavior Reflection” will need to be signed by a parent and returned the following school day.
On the rare occasion that the inappropriate behavior still continues, the child will move to “All Tour Dates Canceled." This means s/he will miss an additional recess and a referral form will be sent to the office. An additional "Behavior Reflection" will also be sent home. It too will need to be signed by a parent and returned the following school day. A conference may be requested in the case of reoccurring inappropriate behavior.
"Take Home" Folders
In your child’s backpack, you will find a TAKE-HOME FOLDER. Please look through and empty it daily! This folder will contain important information, such as handouts, notes, completed work, and homework. This year newsletters will be sent to the email address that is on file in the office. I will also post monthly newsletters on the Palos East website. If you do not have access to the internet, please send a note to school and I will be happy to send a paper copy home. Please be sure to read your child’s assignment notebook daily. It will list all of the assignments that need to be completed at home. Once your child completes his/her homework, don’t forget to sign and return the “assignment notebook” to school the next day.
Each child will have the chance to celebrate a birthday in my classroom. If your child has a summer birthday, we will celebrate on his/her half birthday. As a reminder, Board Policy 7:260 is in effect as of January 1, 2011. Edible birthday treats will NOT be permitted at school. Non-edible birthday treats are also prohibited. In addition, PFA room parties will not have food treats. However on your child’s birthday, we will sing to them and they will be a shining star with a prize from the birthday box.
