Students in grades 1-5 receive general music instruction once a week for 40 minutes. 5th grade students also have the opportunity to participate in the beginning band program. These students meet three times a week before school. In each grade level students will listen, perform, create, read, and move in a variety of activites that cover the curricular elements of rhythm, melody, tone color, harmony, form, and expression. Interdisciplinary connections are also made and students will develop a rich repertoire of American folk songs as well as music from other cultures.
All students in grades 4 & 5 are invited to participate in the Palos West Cardinal Choir. This group is open to kids who love to sing! They meet once a week on Tuesdays from 3:30 - 4:30, preparing two major programs (winter and spring as part of the Fine Arts Festival) as well as various community events and Grandparents' Day.
