Our ELL parent volunteers may facilitate communication between the school and the non-English speaking parents for conferences, parent/teacher communication and school culture and procedures.
We also connect moms in specific classrooms. This works well since ELLs are clustered in one or two classrooms at each grade level. An example of this would be, if a child has trouble with a homework assignment, he two mothers could communicate regarding the issue. If there is a still a question, then they would speak with the ELL teacher.
Our parents are comfortable knowing that there is someone they can go to if needed. In many cases, new friendships are formed.
