Classroom Information
Weekly Envelope:

Each Friday your child will bring home an envelope that will have papers and tests your child has completed, a newsletter and important papers for the upcoming week. The envelope, along with your signature and optional comments should be returned each Monday.

Homework Policy:

Students will be given
homework daily.  They will be responsible for writing their homework and reminders in their Assignment Notebook for the next day. Please check each night to see if your child has filled it out. Once they have completed their homework for the evening, please initial your child's notebook.

Assignment Alert - It is important for your child to hand his or her homework in on time. Students who do not have their homework on the day it was due will receive an Assignment Alert notice. This must be returned with a parent's signature along with that assignment the following day.  Three Assignment Alert Slips in one week's time will result in an Office Referral.

*If you are picking up your child's homework from school or if they have forgotten an item at Palos West, please arrive by 4:00 pm as the office closes at this time. Thank you.

Reading Logs:

Reading logs will be sent home monthly. Each student should read a minimum of 20 minutes a day for 5 days per week. The log needs to be signed and returned by the designated date. Children will earn a chance to win a book each month if they return their log.  The reading log program is provided by the Parent Faculty Association. Thanks PFA!

We will be implementing the "stoplight" that many of you may be familiar with from previous years. Every morning your child will have his/her name on the green light and if behavior becomes unacceptable, your child will be asked to move his/her clothespin to yellow. With this warning, the problem is usually corrected. If however, the behavior continues, and your child moves to red and a note will be sent home asking you to sign it and return it to school the following day.

We also have a gold and silver light on our stoplight. Students who are demonstrating positive behaviors throughout the day will move their clothespin up the stop sign in an effort to "Go for Gold".

Classroom Rules:

1. Listen when others are talking.
2. Follow directions.
3. Work quietly without disturbing others.
4. Respect others. Be kind with your words and actions.
5. Respect school and personal property.
6. Work and play in a safe manner.

If your child would like to bring a healthy snack to school each day they may do so.
They will keep them in their lockers
until it is time to eat.

Please keep in mind that this will be a working snack. The children will be doing work and handling books, papers and materials while they eat. No time for spoons, straws, or utensils. Please save those items for lunch. Thanks!

In accordance with District 118's student wellness initiative, both edible and inedible treats are no longer permitted to celebrate students' birthdays. Each student will be recognized in class for his or her special day! Summer birthdays will be celebrated at the end of the year.

*If your child is planning a party outside of school, please do not bring invitations to pass out at school unless every boy or girl (respectively) in the class is invited. This is to prevent any hurt feelings of those students not invited.

We have 27 students this year. (14 boys and 13 girls)

Lunch is $2.85.
There are 4 daily lunch choices.
Your child will be given a card with a 4 digit code to purchase lunch each day.
Please prepay your child's account through Skyward.

Please send a written note/email if there is a change in transportation for your child.

Please enter the building through the front office at all times. Please have an I.D. ready to be scanned as well.
