Classroom Rules

  • Follow Directions.
  • Be in your seat and ready to work at the start of class.        
  • Be prepared for class with appropriate books and materials.
  • Do not interrupt others.
  • Keep hands, feet, and objects to yourself.


Students in all grade levels need a system for taking notes and managing their papers, plenty of looseleaf, dark blue or black pens, pencils, red pens, index cards, markers, colored pencils, an occasional poster, and a flash drive.


  • The Word Within the Word (Vocabulary 6th, 7th, and 8th  grades)
  • The Magic Lens (Grammar 6th, 7th, and 8th grades)
  • Prentice Hall Literature (Supplemental reading 6th, 7th,and 8th grades)
  • Assorted novels

Grading Scale

  • A     100 – 90
  • B        89 – 80
  • C       79 – 70
  • D       69 – 60
  • F        59 – 0


Grade Calculations

All assignments are graded using simple points.  The assignment grade is determined by dividing the points earned by the points possible.

Overall reading grades for 6th, 7th,and 8th  grades are composed of 30% vocabulary, 60% literature, and 10% miscellaneous.

Overall English grades for 6th, 7th, and 8th grades are composed of 30% grammar, 60% expression (written and oral), and 10% miscellaneous.
